The Hound in Velvet

A greyhound turns its long narrow head toward the light in a crimson velvet doublet, sleeves slashed and set with small gold buttons, a wide lace ruff standing at the throat. The velvet keeps its darkest wine in the folds while the ruff becomes the brightest thing in the frame. Warm umber ground, painterly edges, the expression somewhere between patient and unimpressed.
